DEADWOOD, S.D. (8/25/25) – For more than five decades, 38 Special has been delivering their signature brand of Southern rock, blending unforgettable melodies with chart-topping hits that have stood the test of time. The legendary group will bring their farewell tour to Deadwood Mountain Grand on Sunday, April 19th at 8:00 p.m.

With sales of more than 20 million albums, 15-plus records to their name, and a catalog of hits including “Hold On Loosely,” “Caught Up In You,” “If I’d Been the One,” and “Second Chance,” 38 Special has built a legacy few can rival. Known for their signature blend of muscle and melody, the group’s calling card has always been their live shows – a tradition they continue to uphold while playing to sold-out audiences across the country.

Formed in 1974 in Jacksonville, Florida, 38 Special quickly rose to prominence on the strength of their hook-heavy rock & roll. Through the years, trends changed and band members came and went, but the fire never dimmed. Today, founding member and frontman Don Barnes leads the lineup alongside guitarist Jerry Riggs, bassist Barry Dunaway, drummer Gary Moffatt, and keyboardist/vocalist Bobby Capps, proving that the spirit of classic rock is alive and well.

The band recently released Milestone – their first studio album in over 20 years – showcasing an updated, modern 38 Special sound while staying true to their roots. Packed with snarling guitars, anthemic hooks, and the same electrifying energy that has fueled their career for 50 years, the record underscores that 38 Special isn’t just resting on their history – they’re writing new chapters.

“After all this time, we wanted to create a more modern 38 Special album,” Barnes says. “This is a fresh, updated approach to the sound we’ve been making together for so long. If you’re gonna do it, you might as well go big.”

Fans can expect a night of unforgettable rock anthems, new material, and the same relentless energy that has defined 38 Special since day one.
